TECHNICAL AND FUNCTIONAL FEATURES
THE WOUND BED PREPARATION
The Wound Bed Preparation is the global and coordinated management of the skin lesion,
to accelerate the endogenous healing process, but also to promote the effectiveness of other therapeutic measures (V. Falanga)
CHARACTERISTICS
It’s characterised in four phases:
- Debridement
Removal of necrotic, damaged or infected tissue, which could compromise the healing of the lesion. - Control of the bacterial load
- Exudate management
In the presence of chronic wounds, the composition and/or high presence of exudate, could slow down or block the proliferation of the growth factors. - Correction of the biological microenvironment
Finalized to promote the healing of the epidermis
The correct application of the WBP leads to:
- an adequate preparation of the wound bed
- the removal of the barriers that hinder the healing process.
